01 / The tools

Features

Graphite4D is a small set of general tools that work together. See each one in use on the homepage building.

01

Model with building parts.

Sketch a profile, extrude a solid, place walls and openings. Start with direct architectural moves and keep the construction editable.

See the assembly
02

Give the idea a rule.

Connect values, geometry, collections and scripts. Turn repeated work into shared recipes with controls you can use again.

See the canopy rule
03

Read the model as data.

Keep attributes with the geometry. Inspect areas, count rooms, make schedules and color the model to understand what is changing.

See the model data
04

Draw from the same model.

Create linked plans, sections and elevations with vector SVG/PDF output. Complete construction sheet management is still being developed.

See the drawings
05

Work with an AI collaborator.

Inspect proposed changes and keep alternatives. Coming soon: connect the AI assistant you already use to query, evaluate and propose edits.

See a saved AI alternative
06

Keep the wider picture.

Add site context and editable terrain. Use materials, lighting and shared browser projects to develop and communicate the design.

See a connected model

How to read this comparison

Sources checked September 26, 2026. They describe vendor documentation, not a hands-on benchmark. A hollow circle means we could not find the capability in the reviewed documentation; it does not prove a product cannot do it. “Best” marks the highest total within a category (full = 2, partial = 1); ties share it.

Costs are in USD before tax, for each product’s cheapest plan licensed for professional work. Annual prices are divided by 12 and Rhino’s perpetual license by 36 months. Free plans exist for several products. Graphite4D’s column describes the current product and its known limits.

Where each tool stands out

SketchUp Pro
Direct modeling, a large component and extension ecosystem, and LayOut documentation.
Rhino 8 + Grasshopper
Broad freeform geometry, deep computational design and a mature specialist ecosystem.
Revit
Multidiscipline BIM, consultant coordination and production construction documents.
Snaptrude
Browser concept design with a direct Revit handoff and team workflows.
Arcol
Collaborative massing, live feasibility metrics and presentation boards.
Motif Design
Associative browser BIM with model-changing agents and coordinated drawings.
Hypar
Space planning, adaptive furnishing, layout suggestions and Revit delivery.

03 / Use cases

Where Graphite4D fits.
What to pair it with.

Reusable architectural design is the focus. Some jobs still call for a specialist tool.

01

Early design options

Test massing, heights and setbacks on a real building model, and keep each option to compare side by side.

02

Repeated building systems

Define a facade, canopy or unit once as a recipe, then vary it everywhere it appears.

03

Area and program checks

Count homes, total areas and color the model by use while the design is still moving.

04

Reviewing AI alternatives

Ask for a change, see exactly what moved, and keep or discard it.
